What We Do

Our Commitment

Republic Services is committed to being a good neighbor in the communities we serve. Foothills Landfill is committed to operating with environmental practices and policies that are good for our customers, local businesses and residents. Our local team of environmental managers, engineers and scientists ensures that the long-term management of the landfill materials is regenerative to the planet.

Foothills Landfill is operated in a manner designed to protect public health and the environment. We regularly monitor and report our activities to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and Jefferson County Public Health, and we strive to meet or exceed all state and federal regulations. All waste is disposed of within the boundary of a constructed landfill area that has been engineered to protect the environment and meets all federal, state and local regulations. There are many environmental protection systems at Foothills Landfill.

The Foothills Landfill team takes multiple steps to protect the environment. All waste is screened to ensure unacceptable waste is not accepted, and our standard operating procedures are designed to exceed CDPHE standards. More than 180 acres of Foothills Landfill property is dedicated to non-landfill operations.

Foothills Landfill collects and safely destroys over 237 million cubic feet of methane each year preventing additional greenhouse gases from entering the air in the Denver Metro Area. This helps keep the air clean and prevents over 6 million tons of CO2 from affecting the Ozone.

Protection of all water sources is a priority at Foothills Landfill. The Landfill is designed with a highly engineered composite liner system designed to contain any liquids that percolate through the solid waste. The liquids are then reclaimed. Surface water at the site is controlled through a series of diversion berms and drainage ditches to preserve its quality. In addition, Foothills Landfill assesses groundwater with 8 individual groundwater monitoring wells. Each well is routinely tested to verify the groundwater’s safety.

We service 1,000 collection routes throughout the Denver Metro Area.

Waste is carefully compacted and covered daily to limit wind-blown debris and odors, and create a stable engineered hill.
